The meaning of Sustainability

Just in case there are a few stragglers who need reminder, or perhaps enlightenment, regarding the subject of sustainability and how it applies to society and the individual, the ideology behind sustainability can be summarized as "providing for the future." Let us begin from the authentic substance of the word 'sustainability'. The linguistic profile alone would suffice in understanding the ideological approach, which is devoted to creating an entire system of efficiency within every aspect of humanitarian existence. This particular ideology is focused on the most unique piece of isolated 'rock' in the world: the Island of Bermuda. If you have ever been to the island or are somewhat familiar with its geography, then you have already been acquainted with the constraints and domestic problems associated with such global isolation. Make no mistake, we have endeavored over four hundred years now in an environment that is outdated, overrated, and temporarily beneficial. It is time to make a change now so that we can assure a brighter future. The objective behind sustainable development in Bermuda is as simple as the words that provide its meaning: to support and strengthen with the capacity to endure. This definition is what we stand for, as people and as Bermudians. for the obstacles that we encounter now and tomorrow. As long as our 'island in the sun' remains in its geographical location, so will the hope and perseverance to obtain a better tomorrow...

So what does this mean? Maybe you should ask yourself that question, the answer requires time and commitment. The question is really, what do we need to do and what do we need to change in the hours of today that will grant us more or equal prosperity in the future?

-do we need to reassess the problem with educational development on the island?
yes
- do we need a conservative policy on energy sources for the island?
absolutely

-do we need to invest in more attainable, less costly fuel sources on the island?

yes

-do we need to reform in government policy to reduce the perpetual increase in living costs on the island?

yes

-do we need greater opportunity for every individual?
no doubt about it...

what questions do you have??

post them now....

I'm just getting warmed up...

omfg ITS (A)MAXXE (B)DAY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY I FEEL LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY LIVING IN DC AND ALL....
UM
YA

Oiiii 3 R's

Jack Johnson had a song called "3 R's" - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!!!!
Artist and boutique owner Denise Carbonell's work puts the fun back in the craft and seems to agree with JJ and his 3 R's... One of her recent projects was making ornaments from bell wire found in the street.. and wow are they fannntasssstic tree decorations!

Carbonell explains, "While the works involved in making these orbs is painstaking and laborious, the beauty of making pieces so amazing from other people's trash is a continually inspirational process for me. The reinventing part comes into play because I am reusing something already on the planet, as opposed to buying something new--which in my mind supports overconsumerism." WELL MISS, I agree with cha and I think what you have done is super fucking cute/admirable.

uhhhh
